Antioxidants

Antioxidants provide your body with protection against oxidative damage caused by free radicals in the body (also known as Oxidative Stress).  There are a number of different factors that can lead to oxidative stress as follows:

  • air pollution
  • alcohol consumption
  • toxins
  • high blood sugar
  • taking in large quantities of polyunsaturated fatty acids
  • radiation
  • sun exposure
  • infections
  • unbalanced oxygen levels in the body.

There are a number of ways that antioxidants benefit your body which include providing cardiovascular and immune support and protecting your skin from premature aging and damage caused by harmful UV exposure.

Antioxidants occur naturally in many plant based foods such as fruits and veggies, coffee, tea, wine and dark chocolate.   Our body's ability to product antioxidants declines as we age which is why it is wise to supplement them into our daily diets.
