Amino Acids

Amino Acids are the building blocks of the cells in our body.  There are three main types of amino acids;

  1. Essential (amino acids that your body cannot produce itself);
  2. Non-Essential (amino acids that the body can produce with proper nutrition);
  3. Conditionally Essential (amino acids that the body can normally product but needs a greater amount from diet or supplements due to stressful situations).

Deficiencies of essential amino acids can cause many different health and neurological problems.  Although eating a balanced diet is very important in helping your body get the amino acids it needs, it is not always possible so supplementation is needed.

Each amino acid has a particular role in the cellular functions of your body.  Many brands provide single amino acid supplements as well as combination formulas for a wide range of benefits.  The following list contains essential amino acids that your body cannot produce itself and supplementation is needed:

  • arginine
  • histidine
  • isoleucine
  • leucine
  • lysine
  • methionine
  • phenylalanine
  • threonine
  • tryptophan
  • valine.
